French oak

Reforestation : The cooperage commits to planting another 2000 trees.

After financing in 2019 the plantantion of 2000 trees in the Ferté-Vidame area of Eure et Loir in the Centre of France, in order to help rehabilitate a deforested area, the cooperage renewed its commitment for the environment and sustainable development by reforesting a plot in Broindon, Côte d’Or.

Located a few kilometers away from our large formats workshop in Gevrey Chambertin, this plot covers 3,19 Ha and is a victim of climate change and parasitic infection.

Four species of trees (sessile oak – representing 80% of the plantation, Norway maple, Hedge maple and wild pear tree) will be combined to created a new biodiversity in favour of local fauna and flora.

A few years ago, the plot was covered by pedonculate oak and ashes. Unfortunately, heatwaves and draught prevented them from revegetating naturally. A new plantation is then necessary, and a new oak variety, sessile oak, will be introduced.

The variety bears water stress much more easily than pedonculate oak. Ashes have been hit by the Chalarose fungus, which triggered its premature decline. It will be replaced by maples and wild pear trees.

This project will generated 8000 months of oxygen, 6000 shelters for birds, and 2000 hours of work.

The 1st half of the trees have been planted, follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see how the plot is evolving !
